The idea was to take something that would normally require manual modelling and make it much simpler: import a PNG and turn it into a 3D standee directly inside SketchUp.
The extension needed to be straightforward enough to use without a complicated setup, while still giving the user control over the finished model.
Import PNG images directly
Generate 3D geometry from the image
Control the depth/thickness of the standee
Adjust side and back colours
Keep the whole workflow inside SketchUp
What We Did
We developed a custom SketchUp extension with a simple interface for importing an image, setting the standee properties and generating the finished 3D object.
Instead of adding a pile of features nobody asked for, the tool was kept focused on doing one job properly.
The Result
A purpose-built SketchUp tool that turns a previously manual process into a much quicker workflow; and a good example of what we mean when we say custom software built around a specific problem.
